Joe Johnston
Mk1 Ford Consul Cortina GT , Number 23

Joe last competed in oval racing at Cowdenbeath circa 75/79 in a spaceframe Anglia and a Mk1 Cortina (see car 147 below). Since then he has had a long sabbatical from racing.
Joe competed in only a few hillclimbs since then but struggles to remove the grin from his face since last year at Bo'ness - he stays 500 yards from the hill and remembers the original venue well. A paid up member of the SMRC, he did not race last year apart from Bo'ness, but improving health should merit an entry this year.
He has owned Lotus models since mid 70's - Derek Hastings campaigned Joe's Elan plus2 and S4 last year with good results. Joe counts his heroes in life as Senna and Wullie Toye - Wullie would swap a good Anglia shell for a crate of beer when he owned Polmont scrapyard.
Joe works as Engineering manager for Ian Ballantine at his local iron foundry. Ian's father, Harry, managed Ecurie Ecosse at the end of the GOOD years with Ian's Mum and Dad both competing in hillclimbs. Joe enjoys country sports, deer stalking, fishing and always ran with the local fox hunt and for the 2010 season, Joe is going back to his Ford roots entering a 1963 FIA Mk1 Ford Consul Cortina GT.
