Championship battle hots up
Another record grid enjoyed very close dicing throughout both races with the addition of Allan Biggar's Morgan+ 8, Tom Wilson's
Sunbeam Ti and the two Datsun 240Z's both running in the invitational class and all adding further spice to the mix. Championship front runners Stan Bernard and Olly Ross both suffered mechanical woes, with Stan's Porsche recording a DNF whilst leading in the first race and a DNS in the second and Olly's Europa winning race 1 but recording a DNS in race 2. Good results for Matthew Gordon's bright yellow and orange Porsche and George Leitch's rare Mini Ogle have now brought them into a four way battle for overall honours in the Championship. Enquiries from potential new entrants are flooding in with future runners expected to include a second Lotus Elite, Ginetta, Hillman Imp, BMW and Jaguar E type.
Scottish Classics at Bo'ness Hillclimb
Entrants from the Scottish Classic Sports and Saloons were present to support the recent meeting held at the Bo'ness hillclimb track. Stan Bernard took FTD with a time of 21.12s whilst Scott Goodfellow won Class 5 for Sports Cars 01/01/46 to 31/12/60 with a time of 22.15.
Kenny Allen and Olly Ross shared Kenny's Elan in Class 8 for Sportscars 01/01/61 to 31/12/73 following Olly's dropped valve at the last Knockhill meeting. Olly finished 2nd in Class with a 22.42s while Kenny came in 4th with 23.38s. Jim Grant had a 23.67s and Alan Biggar also drove his Morgan Plus 8 with a best of 25.74s.
The event was well supported over the two days although Saturday was very wet and the Paddock had to be re-located further up the hill as the original at the bottom became waterlogged. Sunday was a mix of sunshine and showers and the recently resurfaced track was pretty greasy.
The Bo'ness Hillclimb Revival Club have an good website at hwww.bonesshillclimb.org.uk. Some photos from the meeting can be viewed in the Classics Bo'ness Gallery.

Brief Synopsis of the Regs
The SMRC are delighted to announce that the Classic Sports and Saloons have been awarded Championship status for 2008. The new championship will be class based so that anyone in the four classes can become overall champion. Points are awarded to the first fifteen classified finishers in each class at (25 points for class winner, 20 for second then 16, 14 etc) as long as there are four or more cars starting in the class. Where three or less cars start in a class points will be awarded on a reduced basis (12 for class winner, 10 for second place and 8 for third place). Bonus points will be awarded per class for driver setting fastest lap and additionally setting a new lap record during the race.
Cars must be models that were in production up to 31 December 1979. The eligibility scrutineer will consider cars registered up to December 31st 1981 if the same model was in production in 1979 (eg Lotus Sunbeam, Escort Mk 2, Rover SD1,Ford Capri MGB and MG Midget). Engines must be of a type and cubic capacity available for that particular model when in production and from the same manufacturer. Methods of induction for vehicles manufactured after 31 December 1979 are not to be fitted in retrospect. Carburetion type is free.
The new class structure is based upon engine size as follows:
Class A: up to 1,150cc
Class B: from 1,151cc to 1,550cc
Class C: from 1,551 to 2,000cc
Class D: over 2,001cc
Yokohama are sponsoring the championship, and their 048 tyre has been chosen as the control tyre. Competitors may use Yokohama 032 tyres, but only if the 048 is not produced in a suitable size for their car. Proceeds from the sponsorship will reduce the cost of entries and also go into a prize fund. There will be a one meeting waver for newcomers on non-Yokohama tyres. However, they must race on tyres from list 1A or 1B and cannot score points, effectively running as an invitation class. These cars must still comply with all other regulations and be pre-1980. They will not be eligible for podium awards.
Body panels should be original wherever possible. Body panels of a similar material or fibreglass are only allowed for peripheral panels (eg bonnet, boot, front wings). Kevlar and carbon-fibre panels are not permitted.
Cars must be of MOT standard and should be capable of passing a full MOT. All cars must have a working charging and starting system. Front and rear lights must be fitted and in proper working order. Cars must not be lightened excessively and may not weigh less than 90% of their original kerb weight. Interior trim and passenger seats may be removed.
The MSA's guidelines strongly discourage faster cars starting en-masse from the back of the grid so fully reversed grids for race two of the Classics will not return this year. Instead, the MSA has approved that the top six finishers in race one will have their grid positions reversed for race two. The remainder of the grid will line up behind following their finishing positions per results of race one. Non finishers and non starters from race one will start behind.
